Boy oh Boy Chase and Owen have changed a lot and are doing so many fun things. First of all, they are just delightful these days. They both are very happy, there is very little tantruming, arguing, saying "No," and other undesirable behaviors. Excuse me for a minute while I find some wood to knock on. (Pause) Ok, I'm back.
Chase
Chase continues to be a ham and loves attention. He loves to perform and knows how to get us to do what he wants by giving us the puppy dog eyes and pouty lip. He has a cry that the neighbors can hear-as he opens his mouth as wide as it will go and just wails. Jeff and I have a hard time not laughing when this happens. It's typically not because he is hurt, it's because he didn't get his way or is mad. He is very into letters. I would say that's his number one delight right now. He knows all the letter sounds (thanks to Leapfrog Letter Factory-if you don't have it, get it!). He loves to play with the letters I made for him and say all the sounds. He also finds letters in the most obscure places. I moved our basketball hoop, which was sitting on the carpet. It left a "D" shape in the carpet-which I didn't notice at all. Sure enough, Chase was over there pointing saying, "D, D, D". He's a smart boy. He still loves to play Hide-n-Seek, known as "Hide" at our house. This is a nightly game for us and a fun and very active game. Jeff picks up one boy, I the other and we run or sprint through the house hiding and trying to find the other pair. Chase can be a picky eater at times, but we've learned to let him eat when he is hungry. He is the most willing to try, given there will be a reward for the try, like another grape. This is how we get him to try new foods. You can have another grape if you try your turkey. It's working well! About 1 month ago he was having a hard time going to bed. He really did not want to do it and would sometimes cry. We pushed bed time to 7:30 and take about 20 minutes to wind down prior to this. We read, cuddle and have some fun. This seems to help. However, he still asks for something to eat as a way of getting out of going to bed. He says, "No K". "K" means sleep. It's actually more of a snoring sound because that's how we showed him we were sleeping. Ahhh, my kids have more sounds for words than I can count. At least I know what they mean.
Owen
Owen is the funniest with "Hide". He literally can not stay quiet. He little body tenses up and he giggles the most high pitched funny giggle as he waits. The closer people get the more he giggles. He's pretty easy to find! He is happy go lucky most of the time and does a great job playing with toys by himself. He also loves to play with letters and make letter sounds just like Chase. He love love loves his 2 blankeys-his ducky and his big blue knitted blanket that I made for him before he was born. When he gets upset he’ll cry and in a low voice will make a sort of growly noise to ask for the big blankey and a second later in a very high voice he will say “little” which means little blankey. It’s adorable and funny at the same time. He tends to hoard things and carry them around with him for days. For example, over Thanksgiving we did an art project and he became attached to the glue stick and a big triangular crayon. They had to be with him at all times. He is currently attached to some new little square books we got. He likes to take them in bed with him. Owen finds things that are “key key”, which means, “icky” and throws them away for us. It’s great! He is a good eater and doesn’t need much prompting from us. If he does require prompting he’s more than likely not going to give in. He’s either hungry or he’s not. Owen is very good at the pout and may have learned this from Chase. He has a little lip that pouts its way out and he looks at you with his big hazel eyes, which sometimes even fill with tears. Owen loves to jump on the couch and on cushions. Most of all he just loves hide-n-seek, like I’ve said before. Owen also really likes to wear a couple strands of Mardi Gras type beads around the house. He love to sit in our big basket of balls and just chill while wearing the beads. He really loves art projects, coloring, markers, play dough and putting little shapes in very specific spots. He’s very detail oriented. He loves to sort shapes into piles and then, of course, carry them around the house with him. Owen sits on his knees with his legs to the side-which must be terrible on his knees.
In church on Sunday Jeff and I picked the boys up from child care. There was Chase standing at a table with 4 other boys telling them to “SHHHH”. Owen was on the floor with 2 boys playing cars not interacting with them. This is such a typical view of them.
In the bathtub they play with their letters over and over and talk nonsense the whole time. They love to sing I"m a little Teapot, Patty Cake, Two Little Ducks, ABC's, and any other song I sing. They hate to have their hair washed because it means water will get dumped over their heads. They do not like it when I pull the drain and the water starts to go down. They love to get wrapped up in their warm cozy towels and love to see themselves in the mirror. They like to wash their own hands, and do so throughout the night. They wander into the bathroom and turn the water on and off on their own. They don't really like to brush their teeth, but will do so to "get out the bugs" like Daddy tells them. When reading before bed they always want, "one more" book. They are allowed to bring a book to bed with them which seems to help things a bit. When you tell Chase you love him he nods his head over and over. Owen stares at you with his thumb in his mouth and smiles.
They are wonderful boys!
