Back in early January we went to a friend's house to ice skate on her pond. She has two little boys too and was excited to show us their ice. We had a fabulous day! It was sunny, not too cold (which is rare this year) and there was no wind. The boys were excited but a little nervous about actually putting skates on. I didn't force them, only encouraged. First they just played hockey in their boots. Owen took off and was all over the ice exploring, which is very Owen. Chase stayed near me and we hit the puck back and forth and had fun. When it came time to try skates Chase was first to try. He wanted the skates off pretty much right after putting them on but stuck with it. By the end of the day he loved it! He was moving around pretty well, getting up some courage and confidence. Owen tried after Chase and wanted to be done too. My friend took him around with the skate trainer. It was a good thing she was there to help because he would have wined too much with me. He loved it too and took off using the skate trainer all by himself all over the ice. It was so fun to be out with just them (Hattie was asleep inside) and watch them smile, laugh and have a really terrific time. I was so proud of them for trying. They did put their boots back on, but then wanted to skate again! So, I let them. It was such a great 2 hours of fun.
