Valentine's Day 2014

Valentine's Day was a much anticipated event at our house this year. The boys were excited for their party at school and had lots of fun writing out their Valentine's. Since they were so excited it made me excited. I made up some pink heart shaped pancakes the night before, made placemats, got their pink plates and glasses ready and did a little decorating. They were excited the next morning and wanted their Valentine. We gave them a Flashlight friend and I also made them a cute little heart man. They were more excited about the Flashlight Friend. :) Hattie got a cute little bath fishing set and enjoyed the package more than anything.

Very Very Very Cold

It continues to be very cold here in MN. Today was -12 on my way to work and the kids have indoor recess again. When we had a school cancelletion a few weeks ago I took the opportunity to do an experiment.

The boys got shirts, got them wet and we put them outside on the porch. In less than 5 minutes they were frozen solid.

Lowry Nature Center

A few weeks ago I was able to go with Chase and Owen on their field trip to the Lowry Nature Center. It was an amazing day for it as big snowflakes were coming down out of the sky. We were all bundled up bumping along on the bus ride to the nature center. I had never been before, but have wanted to go for years. It was amazingly beautiful. The theme of the day was "tracks". We had a naturalist who took the kids around looking for animal tracks and talking about how animals live in the winter. The kids did really well despite the deep snow. Chase was funny in that he was off not listening some of the time. Owen was a good listener and followed all the directions. They liked having their Mommy along.

The nature center has really fun kick sleds that the kids got to use on the pond. They paired up with a friend (which was scary for me to watch as I didn't want my boys to not have a friend. Chase turned to a friend right away and a friend turned to Owen right away. Phew-they had a partner).

Owen told me to shut my eyes, so I did. When I opened them this is what he was wearing and he looked up at me with these big beautiful eyes and my heart melted. He was so cute! Made the hat in school.

We had fun pulling Hattie around in the snow, not sure how she felt about it because there was only this one expression on her face. :)

Chase and Owen were very worried after our first snow melted that they wouldn't be able to make a snowman. I assured them that they would. A few days later we got the snow they wanted and they had plenty of time to make a snowman with me. Now I think they are sick of the snow! The front of the snowman was designed by Owen.
